2016 will become one of the biggest year for Brazil. There will be held one of the biggest four annual international event, the Summer Olympics. Officially known as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, the event will be the 31st summer multi-sport event which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. That's why the 2016 Summer Olympics also commonly known as Rio 2016.
The host city of Rio de Janeiro was announced at the 121st IOC Session held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 2 October 2009, competing with other finalists such as Madrid (Spain), Chicago (United States), and Tokyo (Japan). Rio will become the first South American city to host the Summer Olympics, the second city in Latin America to host the event after Mexico City in 1968, and the first since 2000 to be held in the Southern Hemisphere. The games will take place from 5 to 21 August 2016 and more than 10,500 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) will take part in this sporting event. The games will feature 28 sports — including rugby sevens and golf, which were added by the International Olympic Committee in 2009. Vinicius is the name of the 2016 Summer Olympics mascot, which is a mix of different Brazilian animals. His design takes inspiration from pop culture, as well as video game and animation characters. Alongside his Paralympic Games colleague, Vinicius represents the diversity of the Brazilian people and culture, as well as its exuberant nature. (Olympic.org)
Vinicius is designed by Luciana Eguti and Paulo Muppet, named after the poet and bossa nova composer Vinicius de Moraes decided by popular vote. (Wikipedia)
While the mascot for the Paralympics is Tom, named after the musician Tom Jobim. He represents the plants of Brazilian forests and can pull any object from his head of leaves and is always growing and overcoming obstacles. (Wikipedia)
